Albany Park Community Center (APCC), located at 1945 West Wilson Ave., Suite 3000, Chicago, IL., has a career resource center available for individuals in pursuit of employment in their Workforce Development Program. Their multitude of career workshops and resources assists individuals with preparing for and obtaining the job or career that the individual is pursuing. APCC also helps individuals brush up on their computer skills via APCC’s Community Technology Center classes. So if you wanted to learn that new Microsoft program or improve your typing skills, APCC has that available for you!

APCC also offers adult education classes that allow individuals to improve their basic English vocabulary and grammar skills. Funded by the Illinois Community College Board, APCC has these ESL courses available morning, evening and even on weekends! APCC also offers assistance in continuing education. This organization offers GED and ABE courses during multiple times during the week and weekend.

The best part about APCC is that these services are free! They are here to serve and improve the well-being of the community, so all the services offered are funded by private and public resources.

Kauzu and Veterans at Robert Morris College

Who supports Kauzu?

Veterans do!

Kauzu visited the Veteran’s Job Fair last Thursday, April 25th and received a warm welcome from current and previous veterans at Robert Morris University. Kauzu  also received a few  call outs by the veterans of the U.S. Army!

In a video with the commanding officer Brian Ferrell and his fellow veterans, they thanked Kauzu for providing a service that allows veterans and the residents of Chicago to find jobs quickly and easily. “We would just like to thank Kauzu for coming out to the Robert Morris University Job Fair. We really appreciate that.” (Ferrell).

In addition to commanding officer Brian Ferrell’s speech, two other veterans had some compliments to pay Kauzu.  One veteran, Marcos Garcia, stated his excitement for Kauzu’s appearance at Robert Morris University. “We are really glad this is here. It supports us. It gets us some jobs. It is geographically oriented. The program is really easy to use, (and) I totally endorse this program.” Marcos Garcia even had his friend play the kazoo on camera as a tribute to Kauzu.

On Kauzu’s part, Kauzu would like to thank the veterans of the United States who have offered their services to their country and to Robert Morris University for inviting us into their school to assist their students in finding work.

BAM! It’s Harold Washington’s turn at the Kauzu Kazoo

The Kauzu Krew loves chilling with the crowd at Harold Washington College so much that we took another trip there just this past week, kazoos in tow, to see if their kazoo-playing abilities were any better than those we met at Truman College.

Harold Washington College is one of the City Colleges’ most exciting schools.  The ambition those we met have to reach their goals is contagious.  Knowing that we can help these bright students find jobs that support their studies and long-term goals–by providing the means to search for local jobs–makes the extra hours we’ve spent there totally worth it.

Briya, pursuing her degree at Harold Washington, was definetly not shy about her opinion of Kauzu.  And why should she be?

“It’s a simple, three-step process,” Briya said.  ”No, wait! Not even a three-step process.  A  one-step process!  Name, email address, location, and BAM! You got everything you need.”

And she got an interview.  Congrats, Briya!

Okay, so maybe Harold Washington’s kazooing skills aren’t up to par.  But the energy that Briya and her friends put into their victory job dance was more than enough for us.  ”I’m from Harold Washington,” Briya said with a smile.  ”And I’m proud of that.”

Another Kauzu.Jobs success story.

Blanca needed a short commute -- and found one!

Blanca Bello is a second-year student at Truman College, where more than a thousand students have signed up for Kauzu.Jobs (and attempted to play kazoos) in the last few weeks. She enjoys writing, and wants to study neuroscience.

And now, she’s also a server and barrista at Caffe Italia in Elmwood Park.

She needed a job near home, because she doesn’t have her own car. Before she signed up with Kauzu.Jobs, “I was looking for about a month.”

And after she signed up? “It took about two days.”

A busy student like Blanca needs a local job because a long commute cuts into her study time. (Ever try reading a neuroscience textbook on a crowded bus?) But a short commute leaves her more time for schoolwork, exercise, family or just hanging out with friends.

Caffe Italia is just a five minute bus ride from Blanca’s home. She adds, “Kauzu.Jobs was definitely easy to use. There were a lot of jobs in my area, but this one appealed to me most because it was the closest.”

“It’s a cool place,” she says. “They have great coffee!”
